Tips to protect yourself from future cyber attacks
Today,
as we continue to equip ourselves with all kinds of security software
like firewall, antivirus, endpoint protection programs etc, we find
that all around us cyber attacks and data breaches continue to
happen. Data gets stolen, systems and networks get hit by ransomware
and identity thefts and all such things happen on a large scale.
The recent WannaCry ransomware attack took the global cyber community
by storm. Lakhs of people in over 150 countries were affected;
companies and organizations realized, all of a sudden, that access to
their systems and networks were blocked and they would have to pay
ransom to get it all back on track.
Cyber threats and attacks continue to happen. In this scenario, it's
always good to discuss how to protect oneself from any cyber attack
that could happen in the future. Here we take a look at some very
useful tips regarding the same...

and click, a wrong click could land you in a mess!
A wrong click could land you or your company in a total mess. There
are many unwanted links that come seeking us through the net- via
emails, via chats. Clicking on such links could leave you being
infected and cause total disruption. So it's always advisable not to
click on suspicious looking links or links coming from unknown
sources.
Be
careful about emails and files coming in through emails...
Emails coming in from unknown sources and emails with attachments
that look suspicious have to be handled with care, utmost care. Never
open unusual emails or download files that come as attachments
through unusual/suspicious emails.
Make
sure that all updates are done on time...
Updating antivirus software regularly is important as regards
ensuring security from cyber attacks. Similarly, all other software
updates have to be done on time. These would secure you from threats
and attacks.
Isolate
affected machines, get them fixed/debugged
When a system is affected, the first thing to be done is to isolate
it if it's part of a network. Then it has to be fixed/debugged and
then brought back to the network only after ensuring that it's
'clean'.
Look
for HTTPS on websites, use all security software...
For secured browsing always browse HTTPS websites. It's advisable to
be using all security software that you need for your security.
Go for
proper endpoint security
If there are endpoints in your network, ie, if there are devices that
are being connected to your network remotely, it's always good to go
for proper endpoint security.
Never
use unsecured WiFi connections
Using
public, unsecured connections could put you at risk. It's always
advisable not to use such unsecured connections, in order to stay
safe from attacks.
Have a
back-up of all data, ensure regular back-ups
Have a back-up of all important data. Keep updating this regularly so
